Escambia County, still reeling from Hurricane Sally, knows all about flooding. Years before the storm caused historic flooding, county officials outlined their past success and future plans to improve the area's resiliency.

One of the more interesting tools to lessen flooding's impact: pervious pavement. The mesmerizing technology absorbs gallons of water effortlessly. You might even recognize the type of pavement in action from this British company's 2015 viral video.

After successfully installing it at the county's Central Office Complex, several parks also added the pavement. The county hopes this becomes one of several infrastructure solutions to decrease the amount of floodwater and its impact.
